Episode 15 - Family Above and Below, Junk Food can’t be criticized, Big Brother is in our Conversations?
The traditional family was reflected in the extended family structures of Pagan Deities in many traditions, including ours in Scandinavian culture, very different from the sole dictator of Judaic Mythology. Speaking of family, how about the intergenerational learning that went with exposure to multiple generations? The benefit of hearing about life from the perspective of the parent of the other gender or siblings? The social learning and wisdom the child gained around the dinner table where he or she would learn what it was like to navigate life as an older or younger sibling or an adult- all were benefits of the nuclear family as the lens through which much learning flowed.
The latest in crazy kulchur, it is now suspect to criticize over-processed foods, as if when you have limited budgets, you’re stuck with it. We examine that programming! We look at the power of entertainment media and its addictive spell, like that of social media, where Big Brother gets to decide which topic dominates discussions, or even which meme.
